Moundsville Penitentiary Model Shoot in "The Hole"

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my Supernatural Shoot in Moundsville, West Virginia at the Moundsville State Penitentiary.  The lighting for this shot was achieved by placing 1 Rotolight behind the model (the beautiful Rachel Anne) and then we used two Rotolights on the left and right in front.  No flash was used for this shoot and it was pitch black down in there except for the Rotolights.

This was shot in the solitary confinement section of the prison also known as "The Hole" where many prisoners took their last breath.  We found this chair down there, draped the model in a bed sheet, and started shooting.  I love creating something out of nothing and we worked to do just that with this shoot.  The water on the floor was thanks to the heavy rain we received during the shoot which made this even better.  Hope you like it!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/125 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 6400, flash did not fire.  Taken at 10:32pm on April 16, 2013 by Jason Lanier at the Moundsville State Penitentiary.

Composites with Photoshop by Jason Lanier

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This composite was created in Photoshop from my shoot in Nevada at my workshop there earlier this month.  This is the result of combining 4 shots into one, with each one of the shots of the car being a separate shot that I took as the car was driving by.  These were shot with my D800 and you can see that it still gives you plenty of speed as it relates to your frames per second if you need it.  While it's not my D3, there are very few times you need a camera that fast.

I put these together in Photoshop by using layer and masks, no special software other than that.  I also used a lower opacity on the images of the car further away to give it the look like it's a little bit of a ghost effect.  Hope you like it!

Come With Me to the Moundsville State Penitentiary

This image was taken at my bonus night session while I was doing my workshop out in West Virginia last year.  The great thing about doing these bonus sessions is that it gives you the opportunity to practice from very difficult lighting scenarios that most people can't or won't do.  Best of all is that since it's at a workshop you are free to try everything and test some things without worrying about screwing something up for a paid client!  This image was taken at the end of our shoot and it was just a BLAST!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/30 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 10159, flash fired.  Taken at 11:34pm on October 24, 2012 by Jason Lanier at the Moundsville State Penitentiary.

San Francisco Workshop Group Shot

If you can't tell I'm going through all my workshop images as we get the new website ready!  The cool thing about the new website is that you'll be able to download all the Behind the Scenes and Group Shots for your own personal use which is something my workshop attendees have been requesting for a long time...and now you'll be able to do it!!  Had such a great time at this workshop.  Need to do San Fran again!

Walking on Water...

As I'm working on the new workshops website, I came across this pic and wanted to share it again because it's still one of my all time favorites.  This was shot on the Bonneville Salt Flats right after a rain storm and we had about 3 miles of 2-inch deep water...just amazing!  Everything in this shot is real...just wanna set the record straight in case anyone thought otherwise....Thanks to the beautiful Jasmine Cardon for being a superb model...and later on became a Jason Lanier bride!

What you missed at today's meet up in Oceanside

Today's Meet Up in Oceanside was amazing, and here's the proof!  We had an absolutely awesome time shooting the sunset and using our tripods to slow down the shutter and do long exposure.  I showed the group how to use neutral density filters for awesome shots as I did in this one here.  We truly had beginners to pros and everyone had a blast. Next meet up is next Wednesday in Los Angeles for a model shoot!

Model Shoot at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art- Urban lights model shoot next week on Wednesday February 27th at 6pm!

Click below to register now!!!

http://www.meetup.com/Meet-Ups-with-Jason-Lanier/events/105835832/

Come join me for a 2-hour model shoot in Los Angeles at the LACMA.  If you haven't been there before, Oceanside Pier is one of my favorite places to shoot because it's one of those old school wooden piers that offers a ton of awesome photo opportunities.

We will be shooting the pre-sunset, sunset, and post-sunset, and I will be available to help everyone or anyone who comes to understand anything that they need help with related to the shoot we are doing.

Bring a tripod so we can practice some techniques for shooting with longer exposure.

For those that haven't been to a meet up or workshop with me before please understand that I am a very experienced photography teacher as I've taught literally hundreds of students across the United States in some of the most complex shooting situations you can find or create.

I've read some other reviews from different meet up groups where the organizer just told everyone where to meet and it was kind of one their own from there.  THIS IS NOT THAT KIND OF A MEET UP.  I absolutely love teaching and I love meeting photographers from all walks of life and skill level.  I've trained all different levels of photographers and can't wait to help you with what you need.

Skill levels from beginner to advanced will benefit and I'm always open to questions/suggestions ahead of the meet up to help you with what you need.  I look forward to seeing you all!!
