Who is Jason Lanier
Jason Lanier is an award winning photographer who has traveled the world pursuing his passion for photography. His love of photography grew out of his appreciation for landscape photography and he now incorporates the tenets of landscape imagery into all of his work.
From a very early point in his career Jason determined that he didn't want to be known or classified for a single type of photography. With that goal in mind Jason started shooting weddings while simultaneously building his portfolio in landscapes, wildlife, and portrait photography.
In March of 2007 Jason shot his first wedding after being volunteered by his wife to do so, and Jason Lanier Photography was born. Six months later Jason quit his lucrative Executive job with Starwood Hotels and took the plunge into full time wedding photography. As Jason's career grew he was given even more opportunities to stretch his creative juices and expanded his work to take on assignments in commercial and architectural photography.
Jason is a very accomplished speaker and teacher and has taught hundreds of photographers all over the world with his Shooting, Posing, and Lighting Workshop and REAL Wedding Workshop series. Jason's workshops include stops in Scotland, England, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Africa, Asia, and nearly all over the United States.
Jason has spoken in front of large crowds for Sony at WPPI, and had the distinct honor of speaking for Rotolight at Pinewood Studios, the largest movie studio in Europe. Jason also works with photography schools, clubs, and groups and has made many presentations to groups large and small in an effort to help "spread the educational wealth" of photography. Jason has also worked with PPA (Professional Photographers of America) setting up a private workshop for PPA members only.
Jason has shot hundreds of weddings, big and small for members of the NFL, Major League Baseball, and Disney to name a few. His commercial work has included work for Interfit and Rotolight for magazine ads and publication.
Jason was mentioned in People Magazine and is very well known for his Urban Exploration and most notably his ventures into the Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans which is the most popular video on Youtube for that location. Jason's subsequent ventures into other abandoned locations have earned him a reputation as one of the preeminent experts in Urban Exploration documentation in the world.
In 2014 Jason realized the importance of using whatever influence he had in the photography industry to try and affect change for the better of those that are less fortunate. He teamed up with the Out of the Ashes Organization to help raise awareness, funds, and help for the impoverished children of Ethiopia. Jason makes an annual trip to Ethiopia with the organization using his videos about the trash dump to show the world how much help these children need.
In October 2014 Jason famously made the switch from Nikon DSLR to Sony Mirrorless and his 10 Reasons video sparked a industry wide conversation over the future of photography innovation.
In 2014 Jason started taking on more fashion and model photography as that is a particular area of photography that he finds very fun and rewarding. He now incorporates some of his model shoots into his videos like he did here in a video shot at the Los Angeles River with a Ducati Motorcycle for the launch of the Sony A7Rii.
In August 2015 Jason was featured on CBS News for his work including his humanitarian and photojournalism efforts in Ethiopia. Later that month Jason was invited by fellow Sony Artisan of Imagery Gene Lower to shoot some NFL games with him which was the thrill of a lifetime for him.
Jason is available for any kind of assignment, anywhere in the world. His wide variety of experience and his no fear, take on any challenge approach makes him the perfect fit for so many different projects out there.
Jason is known best for his Youtube Channel where he shares his photography adventures, knowledge, and advice with all aspiring photographers.
When Jason takes a moment to rest, he spends all of his time with his wife and his triplet sons in Southern California usually spending a day at Disneyland or somewhere else where he can spend time with those that matter the most.
