Road to Heaven by Jason Lanier

This was taken in the Glencoe Highlands back in January of this year during the most amazing sunrise I've ever seen in my life.  I first set up and captured my "Heaven's Breath" image and then hiked down further to find different amazing things to pair with the sunrise.  It had been raining that morning so there were still puddles on this old dirt road that hikers use.

So I set up a shot to capture the road as part of the sunrise and incorporate the colors as well.  What you see here is a natural tone and color to the image.  I didn't alter the road and make it purple, this is a natural reaction to the colors of the sky and sunrise above.  Hope you like it!

Heaven's Breath by Jason Lanier

www.jasonlanierlandscapes.com

This is one of the most personally special shots I've ever taken.  It's also one of my personal favorites.  This was shot in the Glencoe Highlands of Scotland during the most amazing sunrise I've ever laid my eyes upon.  This shot came after days and days of not finding a good sunrise.  It came after days of rain, bitter cold, and constant disappointment.  It came after being told that the weather wasn't going to break, that there would be no great images to capture.  I decided to still carry on.

When I'm not getting shots, I become very homesick, and shortly before capturing this image I felt very alone.  Something told me to carry on, that my perseverance would be worth it.  So I decided to get up one more time and see if this was indeed the morning that I would capture a glimpse of heaven.

My shots are incredibly emotional to me, and I feel a deep bond and memory with everything that I capture.  I feel I'm able to show you how I see the world, and how I wish everyone could see just how beautiful of a world we can have.

I remember after taking this image I called my wife and told her that I finally got my shot.  She is along in this journey with me as are my three boys as they go without their Father and Husband while I'm finding the most beautiful spots in the world to bring to all of you.  I am eternally grateful for their support.

I hope that when I die, I can be greeted to such a sight and that I will be welcomed into Heaven's Breath....

What you missed at today's meet up in Oceanside

Today's Meet Up in Oceanside was amazing, and here's the proof!  We had an absolutely awesome time shooting the sunset and using our tripods to slow down the shutter and do long exposure.  I showed the group how to use neutral density filters for awesome shots as I did in this one here.  We truly had beginners to pros and everyone had a blast. Next meet up is next Wednesday in Los Angeles for a model shoot!

Phone Home by Jason Lanier in Scotland

To purchase this image go to:

This image was taken on a small country road in Scotland on a day that had been raining heavily.  In Scotland you will find telephone booths all over the place, and many will be in very remote locations.  Since I arrived in Scotland I wanted to find one that was perfect, and when I found this one it seemed just perfect to me.  It was getting dark and by using some video lights I was able to illuminate the booth from inside, and I just love how it turned out.  Hope you like it!

Root Bear Float

This image was taken at Brooks River with my D7000 back in July of 2012.  I just loved how this Grizzly Bear was surrounded with all the foam, and when it started dripping off his mouth it really make me have the impression that he was drinking a soda and it was just running down his face.  I love Alaska!

Next Workshop: Las Vegas, Nevada- right after WPPI!!!!

Cabo Rojo Sunset Puerto Rico

This image was taken in Puerto Rico back in 2009.  I was there for a model shoot and when this sunset hit I couldn't help but stop for a moment and grab a few landscape shots as well.  If you haven't been to the Caribbean you should go...it's amazing!

Mirror Image

This was taken in Utah during a sunrise I shot at a pond with a cabin.  I just loved the mirror reflection given between the sky and the water.  It was a beautiful sunrise and I'm so grateful that I was able to be there to shoot it...

It's not HDR, it's simple overexposure

There aren't many times that I overexpose an image, but with this particular scenario I wanted to overexpose the image a little in the camera so I could give it the look that I was seeking, a little more of an artistic expression.  This cabin was shot 5 years ago in Utah with my Nikon D2XS.  I did both a day and night shoot and just loved the entire area...from the cabin, the mountains, the pond, etc.  Just a great place to shoot!

Sunrise at an old abandoned farm with a pond in Utah

As we are finalizing the pics for the new landscape website we are coming across some that I've never published before, like this one.  While combing through my old Lightroom Catalogs I found this shot, and after editing I decided it needed to go on the new website.  I shot this 5 years ago with my Nikon D2XS, and I am really happy I found it.  It was a very cold morning with the ground frozen as well as the edges of the pond.  I found this old house the night before and came back in the morning to capture it with the sunrise.  I froze but got some great shots.  Hope you like it!

Something Wicked This Way Comes

This image was taken nearly 6 years ago on my wedding anniversary in New Bern, North Carolina.  My wife and I were having our "second honeymoon" traveling from New York to Florida, and as we were passing through North Carolina a big storm was coming.  I stopped at this abandoned little house, used my car lights to illuminate the house, put my Nikon D2XS on my tripod and waited for lightning bolts to hit.  I couldn't have planned the location of the lightning bolt better and to this day it remains a favorite of mine...

Swanson River, Alaska

This image was taken at the Swanson River in Alaska which is a beautiful area near Captain Cook's Beach in the Kenai Peninsula.  For this shot I used a neutral density filter to slow down the shutter to give the water a creamier look and bring out some of the color from the sky into the water.  The best thing is you have to always be alert for bears, so no relaxing too much while you're shooting!

Polar Bear Swimming Pool

This is an image of the Matanuska Glacier that I shot in 2012.  I could just imagine Polar Bears swimming around for a little break in this amazing place.  If you haven't been you should schedule it on your bucket list.  This water actually lead to a larger pool of water that was just amazing....

Tangle Lake Panoramic, Alaska

This is a 6 shot panoramic of the Tangle Lake in Alaska on the Old Denali Highway.  It's a beautiful area with serene lakes, very few tourist spots, and plenty of amazing scenery.  This was stitched together using Photoshop CS6, but can be done with any version of photoshop from CS3 and up...maybe even earlier.

Many people shoot panoramics using a tripod, but I do them handheld.  The important thing is to make sure to keep your camera level, and to maintain the same focal points in your image!

Old Denali Highway, less traveled, more beautiful

Doesn't this just look good enough to drink?  This image was taken at the end of the old Denali Highway which is an amazing road that doesn't get much traffic at all anymore since the new highway was built years ago.  We found so many gems on this stretch of road that I was so happy we didn't pass it up.  It is passable in an RV, you just have to take your time and you'll be fine unless you're traveling it in the winter time.

Alaskan Lilly Pads

This is an image from Alaska that I shot in July of last year.  As I'm finalizing my shots for my new landscape website I came across this one and wanted to share it with you.  Alaska really is this amazing.  Beautiful clouds, ponds, trees, etc. Just an amazing place....you ALL should go there someday!

Glacier Calving

This is an image of the Northwestern Glacier in Alaska calving while I was there in July of 2012.  Wanna know how big this actually is?  Take a look at the bottom center of the picture where the ice meets the water.  You will see a bird flying in the middle of it all.  When you scale the bird to the glacier, it gives you much greater appreciation for just how magnificent these glaciers are....the boat was a ways away and once the wave got to us it was quite large!

Looking Over Our Country's Future

This image was taken at Lincoln's Memorial on inauguration day 2013.  I thought it was a fitting tribute to pay homage to one of our most amazing and courageous president's ever, President Lincoln, who truly brought our nation together during our darkest days.  The sunset was just striking so I shot this 5 shot panoramic to capture as much of it as I could.  If you haven't been to the Lincoln Memorial, it is quite a site, take the time to learn more about our past so we can ensure a brighter future....

MLK Memorial at Sunset on Inauguration Day 2013

This shot was taken on inauguration day last Monday in Washington DC at the Martin Luther King Memorial during sunset.  We were blessed with an amazing sunset, and because we rented bikes we were able to get around to the various monuments fairly quickly which was great.  This is the first time I'd seen the MLK Memorial and it's quite striking as the stone carving of Martin Luther King stands alone in a big square, so the stone is very imposing in comparison to the surroundings.  Very strong.  I loved how the sun came in and lit the stone for this shot, and I tried my best to capture it!

Reflecting Pool Landing

This image was taken on inauguration evening during the sunset.  One of the best things when taking a landscape is when you can get something spontaneous to happen, like this bird landing in the water as I was shooting.  It was an amazing sunset and I can't wait to share more!

The Other Side of Las Vegas

This image was taken outside of Las Vegas after a rain storm at the end of my workshop in the Vegas area.  We came back to this dry lake bed that was holding a ton of water, and it was just beautiful.  Hope you like it!
