Reflecting Pool Landing

This image was taken on inauguration evening during the sunset.  One of the best things when taking a landscape is when you can get something spontaneous to happen, like this bird landing in the water as I was shooting.  It was an amazing sunset and I can't wait to share more!

Martin Luther King Memorial Inauguration Morning

This image was taken inauguration morning in Washington DC at the Martin Luther King Memorial.  Due to the time of the morning the sun was coming in and lighting the face of the memorial which gave it some great contrast between the face and the sides of the memorial.  It was a VERY cold morning, but I'm glad we made the trip because it was awesome to be there for history.

I Have A Dream, Inauguration day 2013

This image was taken from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King delivered his most famous speech in the very spot where the engraving you see here sits.  This was taken during President Barack Obama's second inauguration just before noon moments before he was sworn in.

Official Inauguration Sunset by Jason Lanier

This image was taken on Sunday January 20, 2013 the official inauguration day for President Barack Obama.  The ceremony on Monday was a public inauguration, but the official one was the day before.  I came down the National Mall and saw the sun setting.  I walked down the hill and split the sun with this lone tree.  I just loved the shadows it cast and the simplicity of the image.

Inauguration Sunset at the Lincoln Memorial

Yesterday was an absolutely amazing sunset on the inauguration of President Barack Obama for his second term.  As the inaugural balls began, and most of the crowds dissipated, we were treated to a historic sunset in our nation's capital. This is a 4 shot panoramic of the Lincoln Memorial at sunset with my Nikon D800.

Capitol Building Inauguration 2013

This image was taken today on the official inauguration day which was today.  It was such a beautiful day, and I really was happy that some clouds came out for this shot because there have been no clouds in the sky at all.  Can't wait to shoot tomorrow!!!

Washington DC Workshop Group Shot

Group shot of us at Mount Vernon in Washington DC.  We had an amazing time, and now it's on to shooting the inauguration festivities over the next 2 days.  In talking to the Park Rangers I learned a few interesting things:

- They are expecting only about 20% of the crowd that came to Obama's first inauguration

-Inauguration ticket requests are coming in at a snails pace compared to last time.  10,000/day versus 10,000/hour 4 years ago.

I'm in our nation's capital to shoot the inauguration regardless of who wins simply because it is living history.  I plan on shooting the next 40 years worth of inaugurations if the body is willing.  This is my second one because in 2008 I had just been a pro photographer for 1 year, so in 2004 I wouldn't have known what I was doing.  Can't wait to share stuff with you all!

ABC News Interview at the Lincoln Memorial

This is a production still from my workshop yesterday in Washington DC at the Lincoln Memorial.  As we were shooting I was approached about giving my thoughts on various topics for ABC news.  It was a really fun experience, but I do wish ABC would have used better lighting so I wasn't squinting.  Leave it to me to critique ABC but they should have used a soft cutter so the glare sun wasn't so bright.  But, I was still excited to do the spot.  Today we have Mount Vernon, and then back to the Mall area for another great day!!
