Swanson River, Alaska

This image was taken at the Swanson River in Alaska which is a beautiful area near Captain Cook's Beach in the Kenai Peninsula.  For this shot I used a neutral density filter to slow down the shutter to give the water a creamier look and bring out some of the color from the sky into the water.  The best thing is you have to always be alert for bears, so no relaxing too much while you're shooting!

Tangle Lake Panoramic, Alaska

This is a 6 shot panoramic of the Tangle Lake in Alaska on the Old Denali Highway.  It's a beautiful area with serene lakes, very few tourist spots, and plenty of amazing scenery.  This was stitched together using Photoshop CS6, but can be done with any version of photoshop from CS3 and up...maybe even earlier.

Many people shoot panoramics using a tripod, but I do them handheld.  The important thing is to make sure to keep your camera level, and to maintain the same focal points in your image!

Old Denali Highway, less traveled, more beautiful

Doesn't this just look good enough to drink?  This image was taken at the end of the old Denali Highway which is an amazing road that doesn't get much traffic at all anymore since the new highway was built years ago.  We found so many gems on this stretch of road that I was so happy we didn't pass it up.  It is passable in an RV, you just have to take your time and you'll be fine unless you're traveling it in the winter time.

Lincoln's Vista by Jason Lanier

This shot was taken last night on inauguration evening as the sunset was ending.  The coloring on the entire picture including the Washington Monument is completely unaltered.  The Washington Monument is golden because that was the last part of the sun that was shining through.  This was taken from the top center steps of the Lincoln Memorial and is exactly what Lincoln looks at every evening.  It was the most amazing sunset I've ever seen in Washington DC....
