This is why your assistants need to be great photographers too!

This outstanding image was provided to me by my assistant Joyce at my workshop in Nevada.  It is now tied for my favorite production image ever!  I look like I belong on CSI Miami with David Caruso or something walking through the dust.  The dust trail you see was left by the Camaro that went speeding down the way...and I walked right behind it to get the shots of the bride and groom.  It was totally awesome and I'm so grateful to my awesome assistant for giving me this outrageous shot!!

Shooting on the Sky Bridge in Vegas

Production image of me shooting on one of the bridges that crosses the streets in Vegas last night during my meet up shoots.  I grabbed a D300 from one of my attendees to help them with their settings.  Had a great time!

You're gonna want to hang this shot on your wall....

I can't wait to get done editing this image that I was taking of the sunrise in the highlands of Scotland at Glencoe.  This sunrise was truly epic.  I had the chance to speak to some locals, and even they said it was phenomenal.  This print (not the one of me shooting it, but the actual one I shot) will be available on my new landscape website which comes out very soon.  Can't wait!

Creating Your Own Production Images

This isn't a smile, but my little Sony Handycam sure thinks it is!  When I'm traveling alone I film a lot of my shooting with my Sony Handycam so I can share my Photo Adventures with all of you!  Well, I love my little Sony because it has a setting that detects smiles or opening of the mouth and when it is in recording mode it will simultaneously take a picture of it.  It's what enables me to share so many shots with you guys...:)

This is a picture of me putting on the quick release plate to my tripod on my D800 during a rainstorm.  So, my Sony actually captured me grimacing and thought it was a smile, but it regardless I have a fun shot to share.  I just love my production images because they are fun for me to go back and look at.  They also can be great for sharing some tips and other educational tidbits as well.  Thanks!

Kildrummy Castle Night Shots

Production still of me shooting at the Kildrummy Castle.  The lighting which caused the shadow is coming from the video light that was recording my session.  Can't wait to share the shots!

Shadow Figures at the Eilean Dolan Castle in Scotland

This is my shadow shooting at the Eilean Dolan Castle in Scotland.  I shot this by using the backlight from the castle lights to light my shadow, and yes I did pose the shot...I look sexy for a shadow don't I?  Well, this was shot on a self timer with my Sony Handycam, and yes, I do set the exposure levels on that little thing as well.

The Eilean Dolan Castle is located near the Isle of Skye and the whole place is just amazing.  Hope you like it!

Guys will be....boys

This is a production still from the wedding of Seth and Yvonne that I shot at the Hard Days Night Hotel this weekend in Liverpool, England.  I was shooting the groomsmen on the balcony of the John Lennon Suite when the boys decided to do what they do best, start telling stories that can't be repeated on Facebook.  I even had a career first where I jokingly told the groom and best man to kiss, and they were more than happy to oblige (I have proof and I'm not talking about a peck).  These guys were wild, but hey, they are from West Virginia so I shouldn't be surprised!  The bride's family is from England, and those girls were a blast as well.  Can't wait to share pics!

Jason Lanier shooting a wedding in Liverpool, England

This is a production still taken at my wedding this weekend in Liverpool, England while we were trying to do the group shots.  The bride and groom (Yvonne and Seth) wanted a picture with everyone so the only way to make it happen was for us to go to the front entrance steps of the hotel!  The only problem is that we couldn't get the second swinging door to open, and this shot captures our reactions as some of the groomsmen tried to "fix" the problem!  It was an amazing wedding and I can't wait to share more pics!  Tomorrow I am going to shoot with the bride and groom all around town in Liverpool, it will be awesome!

One of my favorite Christmas Gifts Ever...

This shot was given to me by my Mom for Christmas....she's a really good photographer isn't she?  This is me shooting in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park in Alaska, and it's completely unposed...I mean it.  I waded my way into this group of tree branches that were against this lake, and I started shooting.  Meanwhile my Mom took this shot of me.  One of my favorite things is shots of me actually shooting.  Not because I love myself so much, but because when I'm old and can no longer walk and go to some of these places one day, I want to be able to see myself back in these areas doing exactly what I love....thanks Mom!!!!

Jason Lanier Shooting the Old Canning Fort in Singapore

This is a production still of me shooting at the Old Canning Fort in Singapore while I was filming an instructional video there.  It's really an amazing place and reminded me of a place where Indiana Jones would have visited (if he were real of course).  I just love old and ancient places, photographically speaking I don't care for modern places too much.  Can't wait until I can share the video with you all!

Child's Report on Jason Lanier

This image is of a paper report done by the daughter of my close friend Vanden King, who I met at one of my workshops two years ago.  Vanden sent me her report and I was so honored to read what she wrote.  I was even more proud of her that she got a 95% on the paper!

Jason Lanier Shooting at the Neushwanstein Castle

I've seen a number of castles in my lifetime but the Neushwanstein Castle is the best so far.  It's nestled in the majestic German Alps the views are spectacular and the castle itself is in pristine shape.  What's even better is that you can get up to the Marienbrucke Bridge which is where you see me shooting here.  It's a footbridge that gives you unprecendented views of the castle.  I can't wait to edit and share the shot I was taking here!

Shooting Pin Ups on the Beach

This is a production image of me shooting at the beach in Maui for my pin up shoot there earlier this week.  It's always fun to marry different things together, and putting this dress with a houndstooth coat, on a beach with an abandoned building seemed pretty perfect to me....can't wait to share pics from the shoot!

Pin Ups in Hawaii

This is a production image from my very short trip to Maui earlier this week where I was able to shoot a pin up shoot with the amazing Summer Sweetzer.  It was such a great time, and an awesome location!  Nothing better than pin ups in Maui!

Shooting up close and personal

This is a production image from the wedding of Sako and Alvina last Saturday in Los Angeles, California.  As you can see here I'm shooting pretty close for a cake cutting/champagne toast.  Well, there's a reason I can do that.  It's because I use a full frame camera (D800), a wide angle lens (16mm) and use the Ray Flash which enables me to get gorgeous lighting even up close like I am....the right gear does make a difference!

Jason Lanier (no liquify) with Sako and Alvina

This is a shot of me with my AWESOME wedding couple Sako and Alvina at their truly amazing Armenian wedding last Saturday in Los Angeles, California.  It was the longest wedding of my career for a single day which included 17.5 hours of shooting and 22 total hours of working once you include travel without any breaks...You can tell I was tired when I had this picture taken (taken during the 17th hour) because I forgot to suck in my stomach for this shot.  I could liquify it but I refuse to do that even on myself....lol.
